interviews: making a good impression

It is important to make a good first impression at interview and here are a few guidelines to follow:

  • dress professionally

  • give a strong firm handshake at the beginning and end of the interview

  • smile

  • be confident in yourself and your abilities

  • express your motivation and enthusiasm

  • speak about results and success, not just responsibilities

  • express to the interviewer your interest in the job and company

  • be yourself – don’t try to play a role

  • make eye contact with the interviewer when you answer questions

  • be spontaneous!
    (Even if you've practiced for the interview, don't make it obvious that you've memorised all your answers)

  • if you make a mistake stay calm, regain control and don’t let it worry you. Everyone is human

  • remember, your facial expressions and tone of voice are just as important as the words you use
