We're committed at Randstad to a workplace where everyone has an equal chance to succeed and reach their full potential - regardless of their socioeconomic background or diversity characteristics. What this means for you is, where possible, we're removing the need for degree qualifications within our job requirements. We believe that our differences unite us, with diversity of thought driving our collaboration, innovation, engagement and productivity.
We truly believe that taking this step will enable us to practice more inclusive practices and open the door to opportunities for anyone looking to start a career with us.
why are we doing this
Where you come from, and the education you are able to receive, should not determine your future prospects. Global educational inequality is, however, stark, and this has only been heightened with the impacts of COVID-19. In 2018, 258 million children of primary and secondary school age were out of school. Now, due to the pandemic, 1.2 billion children find themselves out of school, at least physically.
Evidence that success at university directly correlates to achievement later in life is minimal. However, there is a compelling business case that advocates removing degrees or equivalent qualifications from the majority of job requirements, as it:
- removes biases, creating a more inclusive recruitment process,
- adds to a rich and diverse inclusive culture, and
- generates diversity of thought, innovations and solutions.
We believe that this is one of the many things that we can do to improve inclusive recruitment practices. We of course still value academic qualifications for all roles and these will remain requirements, where it is a necessity for the profession, but it will no longer act as a barrier to an opportunity to work here at Randstad.
