interviews: making a good impression
It is important to make a good impression right away, as interviewers often make their mind up about a candidate within the first few minutes of an interview. To ensure you make a good impression here are a few guidelines to follow:
-
dress professionally
-
give a strong firm handshake at the beginning and end of the interview
-
smile
-
be confident in yourself and your abilities
-
express your motivation and enthusiasm
-
speak about results and success, not just responsibilities
-
express to the interviewer your interest in the job and company
-
be yourself – don’t try to play a role
-
make eye contact with the interviewer when you answer questions
-
be spontaneous! (Even if you've practiced for the interview, don't make it obvious that you've memorised all your answers)
-
if you make a mistake stay calm, regain control and don’t let it worry you. Everyone is human
-
remember, your facial expressions and tone of voice are just as important as the words you use
