The imminent construction of a canal-side development in the Black County will create 200 jobs in Walsall.

A £15 million project to build 158 new homes, two new shops and four new offices overlooking the Waterfront in the West Midlands industrial town will begin today (February 8th).

The first phase of the development will also include the upgrading of the canal towpath, which is likely to create dozens of jobs itself.

Brain Lowe, chairman of Walsall Regeneration Company, suggested that this scheme highlights what can be achieved when the private and public sectors work together.

He told the Birmingham Post: "This exciting scheme is the first stage of realising the vision of Waterfront as a vibrant new homes, business and leisure quarter."

Last month, the Midlands' labour market was given an additional boost when Morrisons announced that it will create 300 jobs in the region with a £30 million supermarket in Willenhall.
