The TUC is offering free training to Polish workers as part of a new employment scheme. It is leading the Vulnerable Workers Project (VWP) funded by the Department for Business. TUC London regional secretary, Megan Dobney, explained the course addresses common complaints that Polish workers are making about some British bosses. "Working excessively long hours, with no contract of employment, low pay and not being paid for all the hours they work plus a complete lack of health and safety training are common complaints," she said. The project has established a Polish employment rights booklet to help workers to better understand their workplace rights. According to its research, 25 per cent of Polish workers in London had not received any written contract of employment, and more than a quarter had faced problems with being paid properly. Government figures have estimated that immigrants contributed about £6 billion to economic growth last year.
