A London college has launched courses to help fill skills gaps in the service industry. The classes include catering, customer service and pool lifeguard qualifications, which are aimed to get young people working. "The service industries are crying out for qualified staff," said a spokesperson for Waltham Forest College. "And young people in the Olympic boroughs of London are demanding better training to grab the growing number of great job opportunities in the industry". The project is funded by the London Development Agency, which has overall control for the renovation and rebuild of parts of London involved with the Games. The redevelopment has increased the number of construction jobs for local residents and other sectors are set to benefit during the build-up. Waltham Forest College was prompted to launch its initiative after it was warned visitors to the games would be unhappy with skills levels in the hospitality sector.
