Employers are favouring temporary workers as they move towards a flexible workforce, Personnel Today has reported. Drawing on research published by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation and professional services firm KPMG, it revealed that temporary appointments have continued to grow. KPMG director, Alan Nolan told Personnel Today: "The financial sector as well as IT and computing are among the sectors where demand for both permanent and temporary staff is weakest." The firm's monthly publication, Report on Jobs, showed recruitment has increased at the weakest rate for 55 months and temporary workers are increasingly favoured. "Demand for staff is slowing and employers are hedging their bets with more emphasis on temporary hires, while pay pressures are easing somewhat," he explained. He added there were concerns that problems in the City could move to other industries and the research showed salary inflation slowed to a new low. |
