Employers' groups have questioned a study, which claimed firms have failed to support flexible working. The report, based on calls to the helpline at charity, Working Families, found large numbers of bosses had ignored staff requests. Katja Hall, head of employment and employee relations at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), told Personnel Today: "The report is a one-sided view of how the legislation is working." "Some jobs simply cannot be done on a part-time basis and so refusing the request could be for a valid reason." Research by the CBI previously revealed that 95 per cent of employers offered at least one form of flexible working. Flexible working often helps employees juggle busy personal commitments and can help firms looking to expand. The government will soon publish its review into flexible working -it was called on by unions to extend the right to flexible working to employees without young children.
