Workers in IT jobs have little to fear from reports of 20,000 job losses in the City, according to a report in Computer Weekly. The Centre for Economics and Business Research has estimated 11,000 City workers could lose their jobs this year, followed by a further 8,200 in 2009. "I do not think IT jobs are disappearing because IT actually saves money and provides the next generation of services and products," Brian Taylor from stock exchange Plus Markets, told the magazine. It claimed a combination of factors would help the IT sector avoid loses caused by the predicted downturn. Peter Redshaw, research director at Gartner, told the publication it may even be a good time for IT companies: "Customers move banks more often than they used to, and banks need to differentiate themselves and innovate. IT is one way for them to do this." A survey carried out by the Credit Show, revealed that more than three-quarters of IT companies felt confident about the future of their business.
