Top firms receive Queen's Awards

The UK's top firms have been honoured in the fourth Queen's Awards for Enterprise. Awarded for business related-achievement, a total of 139 business awards and 11 individual awards were conferred. "Queen's Award winning companies are standard-bearers for the very best of British business," said prime minister Gordon Brown. "These firms embody the spirit of enterprise and innovation that is so vital to the future of Britain's economy." The awards were made in International Trade, Innovation, and Sustainable Development categories. Winners included a 106 year-old family fabrics business, an international design consultancy and a medical risk assessment system used by providers of travel insurance. Mr Brown congratulated the winners of the individual awards who gave "their time and energy to equip others with the skills, knowledge and attitude to succeed as entrepreneurs".
