Women in IT often feel they need to push employers to allow flexible working, a poll has found. Research conducted with 200 women showed the majority found it difficult to achieve a work/life balance and had reservations about their employer's flexible working policies, PublicTechnology.net has reported. One respondent at "Working Smarter, Not Harder", a networking event hosted by Microsoft and womenintechnology.co.uk, said: "It's a tough juggling act." "It's definitely something you have to make happen rather than expect other people to provide," she noted. The research found 55 per cent felt they did have a work/life balance and 77 per cent said their employer supports flexible working, although many thought more could be done. Flexible working describes part-time, flexi-time, home working and a variety of additional, less conventional working practices. However, members of the armed forces and workers employed for less than 26 weeks are not allowed to apply.
