US drops UK's £18bn work deal

The US has cancelled an £18 billion arms with the UK, a move that could cost thousands of British workers their jobs, it has been reported. The Pentagon has negated on its agreement to buy tankers from aircraft manufacturer, Airbus and opened an opportunity for the firm's US rival, Boeing, to try for the contract. Union representatives are furious. John Wall, general secretary of the Confederation of Ship Building and Engineering, told the Times: "Airbus beat Boeing in every single major feature in this competition and I don't see that changing, but what has changed is the political pressure to buy American." The UK's defense industry is hugely important to its economy. The most recent assessment revealed the UK topped world arms export tables last year, it has been reported. The Ministry of Defense controls resources of more than £30 billion per year. It regularly recruits workers for commercial jobs and posts for a general administrator or secretary are often advertised.
