The Civil Service is hoping to set the standard on diversity and equality through its new workplace initiative.

It has launched Promoting equality, valuing diversity, and hopes to "embed diversity deeper across all levels of the Civil Service, linking diversity to every aspect of Civil Service business".

Head of the Civil Service, Sir Gus O'Donnell said: "I want the Civil Service to lead the way, among employers, in the way we value our people, invest in their development and create an inclusive culture."

Its new strategy hopes to create a fully inclusive culture, recruit the most talented people from all backgrounds and set out longer-term diversity targets.

Often the first employer to implement government directives, its initiatives can inspire smaller employers of sales, legal and industrial jobs.
