Work helps the disabled value their lives

Work adds value to the lives of disabled people, a new study into their employment has found.

The research questioned nearly 2,000 disabled workers and revealed 90 per cent believe their job has a positive impact on their life.

They said it keeps them active, gives them financial independence and a majority are happy with their healthcare, and level of control they have of their lives.

"As the research shows, disabled people of working age can and want to work, but still face barriers in accessing and staying in jobs," minister for disabled people Anne McGuire said.

National statistics have revealed the employment rate of disabled people has increased by five percentage points, from 43 per cent in 2001, to 48 per cent today.

Disabled workers have a range of employment opportunities – they can work as a secretary, general administrator and in almost any commercial jobs they choose to.

Employment law forbids discrimination on grounds of disability, sex, race or religion - the professional organisations that use the services of Randstad employment bureau adhere strictly to equal opportunities legislation.
