Companies are putting connectivity first

Most companies are putting broadband and wireless connectivity first, independent environmental body, The Climate Group has claimed.
Despite some firms showing interest in environmental concerns, the majority are putting expansion first, said Molly Webb, ICT project director.
"I think there are ICT companies that are really excited about the opportunities that are presented from environmental challenges," she commented.
Her group's research with the Global e-Sustainability Initiative showed transformation in the way businesses use technology could reduce annual man-made global emissions by 15 per cent, by 2020.
Ms Webb said the final step for a company would be to realise green computing could present its own business opportunity.
"Those companies that are getting that are most excited, but those companies are few."
Jobs in call centres invariably involve workers using ICTs, although their environmental effects can be minimised by turning off un-used computers.
