An industry leading police contact centre has warned of the dangers of making trivial emergency calls.
It revealed less than 20 per cent of the calls it receives are for real emergencies.
Call centre manager Adam Gould told the Comet: "We had a call on a Saturday night from someone wanting the answer to a trivial pursuit question and people ringing up to ask for a lift home."
Its Bedfordshire operation has been nominated in the best small centre category of the Call Centre Focus European Awards.
"In the public domain there's a level of antagonism to contact centres and we want to change that," Mr Gould added.
Nominees for the best call centre to work for include: British Gas, Coventry Building Society and German firm Strato AG.
Winners of the award will be announced at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 16th September.
