Migrant female workers receive least pay

Of all groups, female migrant workers are paid least, new research has revealed.
According to the Trades Union Congress (TUC), they have more chance of not receiving National Minimum Wage (NMW) and are more than one and a half times more likely than male workers to be paid the legal minimum.
"The rogue employers who underpay the NMW deserve zero tolerance," said TUC general secretary Brendan Barber.
He said the government standard of £5.52 for workers over 22-years-old is making a real difference but stressed "we must continue to crack down on those mean bosses not paying their staff the legal wage to which they are entitled".
The TUC's Commission on Vulnerable Employment was carried out by Oxford University's Centre on Migration, Policy and Society, and revealed 35,000 women are paid less than the NMW.
It also found migrant workers are employed for longer. Resident workers (48.3 per cent) put in 31-48 hours per week, while 55 per cent of newcomers to these shores did the same.
