Jobless figures for the UK are expected to rise when official figures are announced later this week, it has been reported.

A joint study by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and employment services company KPMG found recruitment activity falling.

"The jobs market has been one of the few bright spots in the UK economy, but cracks are appearing in the face of an increasingly uncertain economic outlook," said John Philpott, chief economist, at the CIPD.

The research showed of the 1,200 firms they polled, less than a third said they would increase recruitment, and five per cent more said they were planning cuts.

"The labour market is suddenly looking a lot less resilient," observed Andrew Smith, chief economist, at the KPMG.

Randstad employment bureau is the world's third largest recruitment and HR services company – it regularly has opportunities for professional jobs.
