London is the capital for stress caused by office politics, new research has found.

According to American Express, most workers get stressed everyday. Office politics and meetings that run late were found to be key contributors to employee anxiety.

"For many hard working Britons there are simply not enough hours in the day," commented head of insurance services Chris Roland.

Other contributing factors are travel delays, lack of free time and having to manage home and work lives.

The most recent labour market report from the Office for National Statistics showed the redundancy level for the three months to June 2008 was 126,000, an increase of 14,000 over the quarter and up 6,000 over the year.

It showed British workers put in 940 million hours per week, 6.3million less than in April but 3.7 million more than 12 months ago.
