Jobs for contractors employed in the information technology field will survive the credit crunch, according to new research.

It revealed 70 per cent of directors were planning to freeze or possibly even increase recruitment in the area during the next year.

IT workers' projects and pay will survive a wider economic slowdown the recruitment survey revealed and more than a fifth of bosses said pay would rise.

"There appears to be no end of the candidate market in sight, with skills acquisition and retention still a pressing concern for IT directors," Contractor UK reported recruitment company director Michael Bennett said.

The recruiter's research showed directors expected project workload to grow and their main concerns were hiring high quality staff and retaining valuable workers.
