Job seekers in east Durham could benefit from proposals to build a large call centre in the region.

According to the Sunderland Echo, plans have been put forward by Hartlepool company Respondez to erect a new unit in the area which would create 500 jobs.

Although no confirmation has yet been given as to whether the building is to be given the green-light sales and marketing director at the firm Sue Marshall was positive about its fruition.

She told the newspaper: "The new site would be within a two-hour drive of where we are because of continuity."

Respondez has also this week unveiled plans to expand its existing contact centre in Hartlepool which will itself create another 100 jobs immediately.

Ms Marshall said: "This has been a truly successful year for Respondez so far and having won several major clients in both our contact centre and warehouse, we are extremely pleased to now be able to announce the creation of the new jobs within the company."

As well as Durham, call centre jobs in Leicester and other parts of the UK remain widely available.
