Over half of jobseekers in the UK have not attended a training course for six months which could be hampering their job search, research has indicated.

In a survey of 623 candidates seeking job vacancies, Randstad discovered that just 22 per cent had gone through training in the last month.

Moreover, 57 per cent of respondents revealed that they had not had any form of training in the past six months.

Nicola Severn, spokesperson for Randstad, said that training is equally vital for UK workers in an "environment where skills shortages are rife".

"There are pools of workers who have the potential to grow and thrive in their working environment but are never given the opportunity to do so," she explained.

"This can stunt development, prevent businesses from fully utilising their existing workforce, and ultimately impact on the UK economy," she added.

In other news, onrec.com reports US research as indicating that four out of five employers are now happy to receive innovative video CVs rather than paper or email versions.
