As London officially takes over the Olympic mantle from Beijing, experts have begun debating what potential boosts to employment in the capital can be expected from the Games.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is engaged with building the Olympic Park and is required to meet a target of ten to 15 per cent of workers bring drawn from London's five host boroughs.
Employment agencies in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Greenwich will be hoping that the target of 11,000 locally sourced jobs will be met
Diane Abbot, Hackney MP, told the BBC that billions of pounds are being invested in the Olympics and that has to provide a boost to the local economy and employment market.
"The Olympics project should be raising the stakes. It will have no sustainability if local people see 85 per cent to 90 per cent of jobs going to outsiders," she said.
Other major projects underway for the Games include the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Velodrome, IBC/MPC and Olympic Village.
