People looking for office jobs in Manchester and other work look set to benefit from what is being described as a major employment opportunity in the northern city, it has been reported.

Around 300 civil servants are re-locating to the city from London in 2010 where they will continue their work at the Training and Development Agency (TDA) for Schools, according to the Manchester Evening News.

They will be based at the newly revamped Piccadilly Gate building and will share the location with Highways Agency civil servants and the Government Office for the North West.

Manchester council leader Sir Richard Leese told the newspaper: "Government agencies have had a strong presence in this part of the city centre since the 1960s, so it's great news that not only have they chosen to stay here, but are enhancing their presence with the relocation of the TDA from London.

"This expansion will inevitably bring new employment opportunities for local people and help sustain Manchester's economy."
