Dairy agreement to create 200 Scottish jobs
3rd July 2009
Hundreds of jobs have been secured and more will be created in a Scottish town following the allocation of a government grant to a dairy co-operative.
First Milk will construct a new creamery in Campbeltown, Argyll after receiving £3.9 million in funding from the Scottish administration, which will maintain employment for 100 workers.
In addition, the UK's largest retailer Tesco will transform the dairy producer's current facilities located in the same town into a new store, which will generate 200 jobs for the Kintyre peninsula's unemployed.
Tony McElroy, Tesco's corporate affairs manager, described this project as "really exciting" for the local community.
He said: "Our Partnership with First Milk will not only help to protect future production in the area, but will also enable Tesco to create over 200 much needed new jobs."
Last month, the Scottish firm Welcon Towers received a £10 million order to supply turbines for Europe's largest wind farm, which supported the employment of 100 individuals in Kintyre.
