The UK media industry is readying itself for job cuts, analysts have claimed.

Enders Analysis told Reuters if economic conditions remained unchanged, half of all current jobs could go.

Group founder Claire Enders said there were 400,000 employees across sectors, which included radio, TV, production, newspapers and advertising.

"Between the beginning of 2008 and 2013 we're expecting half of those jobs to go," she said.

A significant factor that defines the industry's performance is the amount of advertising revenue it attracts.

Despite worries over ad revenues the online advertising industry has continued to outperform others.

According to research by the Internet Advertising Bureau and analysts PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) internet advertising revenues increased 11 per cent on the same period last year.

David Silverman partner at PwC noted that, "a weakening economy will continue to be a challenge to all forms of advertising-supported media".
