Workers aged between 25 and 35 are part of the gap year travel industry's fastest growing segment, new research has revealed. Known as 'career gappers', the group numbers almost 100,000 and is part of a generation that did not go travelling when younger. According to Tom Griffiths, founder of Gapyear.com: "They are also the first generation coming through that are really knowing and using the internet so they’ve bought travel online and they’re quite brave and spontaneous." He claimed many "suddenly hit 30 and are having a quarter life crisis", while others have a hunger for travel having worked for so long. Despite being a recent trend, career gapping is supported by many employers who are keen to retain experienced staff. Foreign travel brings challenges not found in some workplaces and helps employees achieve personal ambitions and return with new ideas.
