Employers need digital skills

Mon 4 Feb 2008

Companies are finding it hard to recruit workers with the right digital skills, a new poll has found. Research by Chinwag, a new media community, has found that 57 per cent of businesses admitted the shortage hampered growth last year. It questioned employers, recruitment consultants and human resources staff and found that nearly all were finding it hard to get the right employees for digital jobs. One said: "There is too much work and a severe shortage of decent designers." Another has found the situation, "truly frustrating". Many employers are looking online for solutions to help their workers communicate effectively within their organisation. Some have established blogs and wikis, which can be edited by employees to help other staff retrieve useful information. Some workers learnt computing skills at school and online, although less have the advanced skills needed to design and maintain intranet's and websites.
