Small businesses get savvy over cybercrime

Mon 4 Feb 2008

Employees of smaller business are getting better at spotting cyber-crime, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has said. It keeps its members informed of specific threats through a magazine and regular correspondence, but admitted computer crime was still a problem. A spokesperson for the FSB said phishing emails remained a cause of concern, although she said members were "becoming a lot more aware of how to spot these and how to deal with them". The results of a previous survey conducted by the group found about 20 per cent of businesses were actually deterred from making greater use of online trading because of the fear of online crime and the fear of card fraud. "It's a huge statistic really, if you're looking to improve or boost enterprise in the UK," the spokesperson went on. The FSB's current campaign, Every Crime, Every Time, encourages workers to report even the most minor workplace crimes to the police.
