New graduates struggle to connect

UK graduates are increasingly skilled in using computers but are expecting too much, according to a new survey. The Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) has published research which claims some of the generation born since 1982 are simply "self-centred", "fickle" and "greedy', Reuters reports. Labelled as 'Generation Y', as opposed to the nihilist 'Generation X' of the 1970s, the group have strong ethical and environmental beliefs and are skilled in IT and current computing trends. AGR chief executive, Carl Gilleard, told Reuters if the economy was to take a turn for the worse, they could be in for a surprise. He explained that in the early 1990's, graduates also had been demanding of their employers, but a slowing economy shattered their illusions. "Whether that would happen with Generation Y and if they could cope is yet to be seen," he said.
