UK leads the way

The UK is better at career management than its European competitors, according to a new study. The research assessed companies in France, Germany, Italy and Spain and created a demographic fitness index. It measured firms' preparedness in management, lifelong learning, health, knowledge and age diversity management. The research found that 96 per cent of UK businesses offered workplace-based training initiatives and 60 per cent created new jobs to help workers progress in their careers. However, Rene Schuster chief executive officer of Adecco UK group, who conducted the study, said there was more to be done. "While there is a slight slip in the UK's overall performance in the survey from last year, it is exciting to see that UK business again leads the way in preparation for the challenge of an ever-changing workforce demographic," he commented.
