CBI rejects full employment rights

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has criticised a new private member's bill calling for extended rights for temporary workers. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Wake Up To Money, Neil Carberry, head of employment policy at the CBI, argued that temporary workers are already well protected. He acknowledged they are an important asset for UK businesses but pointed out that "temps are not the employees of these companies". "It’s actually the wrong approach to regulating the temporary agency market to treat them as though they were," he added. Mr Carberry said not only were the workers protected but "there is an attempt to create an impression that temps don't already have the same kinds of statutory coverage". The Trades Union Congress is calling for the bill to be supported as it feels it would protect temporary workers from discrimination.
