Tories attack employment equality policy

The Conservatives have attacked the Labour party's policies on employment equality and women's rights. Shadow minister for women, Theresa May led the criticism as the party launched a new report, Women in the World. She said: "Labour has a flawed approach to women's issues which has stalled progress." "Labour has failed to recognise the diversity and complexity of the issues that confront women in the world today and mistakenly believes that the best way to solve these issues is by throwing legislation at them." Ms May said the Conservative party would have a policy "based upon a belief in equality of opportunity and equitable legal, commercial, social and political treatment". Her party's report has proposed pay audits for employers who discriminate and extended rights so that more people can request flexible working. Current government legislation considers part-time jobs, flexi-time, annualised hours and home working as types of flexible working.
