A Green Party candidate running for election as Mayor of London, has launched the new Fair Pay Network. Siaân Berry addressed members of the National Union of Students (NUS), Unite, Unison, the Fawcett Society and Oxfam on the subject of low pay and gender. She said that despite the UK's wealth, there were hundreds of thousands of people working for low wages. "As Green Mayor of London candidate, I've pledged to pay the London Living Wage to all employees under the mayor, from telephonists at City Hall to cleaners in police stations," she announced. Previously Ms Berry has campaigned for improved pay for cleaners who work in the Fire Brigade and those who are employed at Canary Wharf. The national minimum wage applies to nearly all workers and sets hourly rates below which pay must not be allowed to fall. Its rates change each year based on the advice of the Low Pay Commission. They currently range from £3.40 per hour for workers aged 16-17 to £5.52 for those aged over 22.
