HR gets organised

Thu 24 Jan 2008

More than a third of human resources departments have undergone significant restructuring in the last year, according to a new report.

More than 100 companies were interviewed for PMP Research's latest annual survey, commissioned by the Evaluation Centre. It found that HR departments were evolving by using 'self-service applications' which helped free staff from administrative tasks.

The study revealed that 34 per cent of organisations had adopted systems "whereby employees use a corporate intranet or the internet to make enquiries about topics such as holiday entitlement and to update contact details".

It found workers were now contributing more accurate data and accessing information online that would previously have required contacting the HR department.

Nearly half of the companies that took part said they plan to follow this route and one-fifth had implemented 'shared server centres' which, the study claimed, could reduce administrative costs.
