UK employees plan to stay on longer
Wed 30 Jan 2008
An increasing number of UK employees intend to stay longer in their jobs because of financial reasons and better workplace conditions, a new survey has found. Research by The Great Place to Work Institute has revealed more and more workers will stay in their posts for three years rather than move quickly on. According to its research, the first reason they stay is economic, however there are signs of an increasing attention to staff by firms. "Companies are really trying to focus on the quality of workplace," said business development manager, Williams Johnson. He explained that globalised businesses could often be accommodating for workers who reflected "a trend of people wanting to experience different cultures and moving away from the same company". The institute's study of the UK's 50 best workplaces in 2007 found that 76 per cent of workers employed in the best companies felt that management "shows sincere interest in them as a person, not just as an employee".
