Illegal workers: More firms face fines

More companies have been fined for employing illegal workers, an investigation by Personnel Today has revealed.
It found 352 businesses have been prosecuted since the Home Office introduced its new points-based immigration system.
"Businesses caught employing illegal workers have been issued a notice of potential liability, outlining their total fine," a UK Border Agency spokeswoman told the publication.
The Home Office has begun a 'name and shame' policy, which sees it publish the details of companies it says fell foul of the law.
The Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act, 2006 states the responsibility lies with the employer to ensure their staff are legally allowed to work in UK.
No business has yet been awarded the maximum penalty, which could include a jail term and unlimited fines.
Neither employment across the country nor recruitment opportunities in Worcester has suffered as a result of the government's new immigration law.
