Big businesses are increasingly putting environmental concerns at the top of their agenda, according to efficiency advisor, The Carbon Trust.

Its research found recent economic difficulties have not forced firms to go back on their green promises.

"Cutting carbon and cutting energy costs is now really the core priority for all UK businesses – it's not just a side issue anymore," observed head of client engagements, Delvin Lane.

He went on to explain that companies have been influenced by rising fuel prices and are looking to make savings.

Offices, call centres and workplaces that rely on computer technology can reduce their carbon footprint by a number of simple measures – Mr Lane recommended they turn of unused lights and computer monitors.

Despite the improving situation, companies are still extremely wasteful. He noted "they're actually wasting seven million pounds a day on poor energy efficiency".

Employment agencies, by following the straightforward guidance of The Carbon Trust, are also able to reduce energy costs and cut carbon emissions.ADNFCR-1476-ID-18698162-ADNFCR
