Volunteering activities should be considered as job seeking, a new report has recommended. The Morgan enquiry has said it should be recognised as a valid pathway to employment for younger people and recommended an accredited volunteering scheme be established. "Ultimately, we want to see a shift in attitudes, with everyone from employers to Jobcentre staff, positively promoting the link between volunteering, skills development and employability," Terry Ryall, chief executive of volunteering charity, v, told Charity Finance. The reported asked for the government to accelerate its plans to review the volunteering scheme and provide clearer guidance. The enquiry also recommended establishing an accredited scheme that matched young people with 'skill-enhancing volunteering'. The association of Volunteer Managers was less positive, its vice-chair, Debbie Usiskin, told Charity Finance, it was too close to earlier reviews. She warned: "If a young person does not find a job through volunteering they could feel like a failure."
