Skills minister, David Lammy, has told employers to put skills and training first to profit from the 2012 Olympics. He said the benefit from the Games will be felt across the country and generate around £6 billion in business contacts. "The Olympic Games present a fantastic opportunity for businesses to tap in to sources of revenue that will endure long after 2012," he commented. Mr Lammy noted the size of a business is irrelevant as all companies need to employ people with the right skills. He said: "The government has accessible schemes to help recruit new employees equipped with relevant skills, and to boost the know-how of the current workforce." While most contracts will be in construction industries, the Games is expected to bring new opportunities in catering, merchandising, media, security, and telecommunications. A joint construction industry-government initiative has been launched, aimed at making the building sector more sustainable.
