Applicants to information communication technology (ICT) jobs display an alarming lack of relevant skills, a new report has found. A nation-wide survey by employment organisation, e-skills UK, has revealed around 43 per cent of entry level applicants had skills below the required level. "Sadly, almost four out of ten applicants for entry level ICT positions were considered to have skills below the level needed by ICT recruiters," it discovered. The survey found recruitment has increased, although "so too did the incidence of ICT related skills shortages". New applicants were not the only workers to be found lacking in computer proficiency – at least 61 per cent of managers had IT skills below the level required by their employers. The research suggested the most relevant qualifications for them to get up to speed are found at NVQ level 2 and above.
