Half of young people prefer to go into work than attend university, a new study has found. Research by the Alliance and Leicester revealed that 50 per cent of respondents said their dream career was attainable without a university education. The lender's current marketing initiative uses celebrity stylist, Gok Wan, who is supporting opportunities for school leavers to get work experience. "I think young adults are often bullied to go into professions," Mr Wan said. He described courses which lacked professional training and forced graduates into certain careers as "graduate graveyards". Mr Wan was keen that all school leavers had the opportunity to study should they want to although, "if you are not going to university don't feel like you are not going to be given the same opportunities," he said. The government has set a target to get 50 per cent of school leavers into higher education by 2010.
