Recruiters and employers need to target all groups to create a more diverse workplace, a new study has suggested. The Chartered Management Institute, Department for Work & Pensions and Institute for Employment Studies analysed what attracted people from diverse groups to certain employers. "Understanding the aspirations of the whole workforce is key to recruiting and retaining the best employees," Stephen Timms, minister for employment and welfare reform, said. The report found 76 per cent conducted online job searches, however techniques of finding jobs differed between ethnic groups. According to the study, online searches are preferred by Asian managers (4.22 on a five point scale) personal networking favoured by white managers (3.86) and black managers (4.30) preferred looking for work in print media. Jo Causon, director, marketing and corporate affairs, at the Chartered Management Institute, revealed there are still improvements to be made in recruiting a diverse workforce. She said: "Despite increasing demands for openness and transparency many of the barriers to achieving greater diversity at a senior management level persist."
