New graduates can benefit from agency help when looking for work, Graduate Prospects, a dedicated student employment group has said. Jayne Rowley, publishing director, noted agencies are often used by recruiters looking for new talent. They are sometimes favoured when confidentiality may be an issue or to help the recruitment process, "so it's always worth including them as part of a graduate's strategy", she commented. Both undergraduate and post-graduate applications increased between 2005/6 and 2006/7, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency. Graduates could find increased competition in the job market should the government reach its target of getting 50 per cent of school leavers into university. "The more resources a graduate can identify, the more choice they are giving themselves," Miss Rowley concluded.
