Workers are so used to email they are forgetting to hold conversations, a new workplace survey has found. The Workplace Intelligence Unit, run by office furniture maker, Herman Miller, and workplace consultancy, Forward Thinking, conducted the survey, which revealed communication problems between employees. The study confirmed email dominates workplace communications, management-issues.com has reported. It also found a third of respondents claimed their organisation has a problem with workers showing a lack of respect for each other. Co-founder, Ann Brewin, claimed limiting face-face exposure can damage relations, although she advised against implementing formal training schemes. "It's far more effective and cost efficient for people to learn from one another informally on a day-to-day basis." Social networking sites are increasingly used for work-based communications – IBM has recently adopted its own virtual world in which workers can meet and discuss work issues.
