Pay awards for managers have increased inline with inflation, new research has revealed Bosses in the private sector have seen their salaries rise by an average of four per cent according to the latest research from Incomes Data Services (IDS). Steve Tatton, editor of its Executive Compensation Review, said that unless inflation starts to come down, the pressure would be on employers to "maintain management increases at a high level during the spring". "January is a key date in the annual pay round and salary awards at the start of the year tend to set the pace for coming months," he commented. The survey found the highest average awards were received by board members, while middle managers received 3.8 per cent and the best average awards were given in the finance sectors. Some employers offer annual and loyalty bonuses, which are paid to staff that perform well and remain with the company for set periods.
