Graduates want the latest communication tools to help them at work, a new study has found. Research by Plantronics has revealed university leavers think tools used outside of work should be integrated into office life, something most managers disagreed with. "The way this new generation wants to work is different and that's no surprise," said Paul Clark, UK general manager. "Graduates today have grown up with newer forms of communication and we aren't just talking email and mobile phones." The research found 82 per cent believed a hands-free headset would enable them to better conduct conversations, 77 per cent wanted a web-cam and a similar number thought Instant Messaging (IM) services would help them communicate more quickly. "By embracing IM and hands-free or even providing this new workforce with greater flexibility in where and when they work, employers can maximise the potential of the young talent they have," Mr Clark advised. Some firms are experimenting with open platforms, which allow workers to drag and drop relevant applications to their desktops.
