Amit Kapadia, director of a campaign group which challenged the government's recent immigration plans, has said he is confident of success. Mr Kapadia led a challenge by the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme Forum to changes made by immigration minister, Liam Bryne. The HSMP Forum claimed the amendments were unfair as they meant foreign workers already resident in the UK would have to reapply under stricter rules. He told Personnel Today: "Our barristers are confident the judge felt strongly that there was unfairness, and that this was shown by the questions he put to the Home Office." He also said the forum would appeal if its plea to the High Court failed. "We are up against a very powerful opponent," he said. "How far the court goes in terms of quashing the changes is hard to predict." The government is introducing a points-based system for immigrants, which grades applicants based on their skills.
