An increasing number of employers are implementing training to boost their workers' performance, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) has found. Its recent survey revealed that seven in ten employers now use coaching compared with 63 per cent last year, Personneltoday has reported. "As coaching helps people to develop, it's a perfect fit for the fast-moving knowledge economy in which we operate," said John McGurk, learning, training and development adviser. The CIPD's research found that two-fifths of employers offered coaching to workers as often as to directors and senior managers, although one-fifth made it available only to more senior positions. Coaching can help identify employees' weaker skills and often concentrates on personal development areas such as communication skills. It is often delivered by successful former executives who utilise tools such as the Myers Briggs Type indicator to identify personality types.
