The government is to invest in eco-friendly colleges, which will increase local access to work-based learning, Personnel Today has reported. John Denham, the secretary of state for innovation, universities and skills will make an announcement tomorrow, which reveals the scheme and the government's investment of £2.3 billion. The initiative, Building Colleges for the Future, proposes a construction plan, which will ensure all new facilities are carbon neutral and could benefit 150 colleges throughout England. "The strategy will also announce the inclusion of mandatory training plans for apprenticeships and work-based learning in all contracts," Mr Denham is expected to say. The secretary of state will add that the money is part of the "most ambitious plans yet for sustainable college buildings", and explain how the companies contracted for the work will invest in their staff.
